In 2019...
I remember going to Ecuador for my very first mission’s trip. I was excited but also nervous as I did not know what to expect. I remember entering the jungle almost every day, taking a three hour bus ride on dirt paths to a village deep in the jungle. The village was made up of 20-30 people run by a local chief. These people lived in huts where some of the buildings had a blue tarp for a roof. They had never seen a doctor before, never had their eyes examined, never been on a plane, and probably never had left their village before. They would walk 2 hours to a nearby factory for work, work long hours, then walk 2 hours back to their village to be with their families. Then, they’d repeat the process the next day.
When I left that mission trip, one word came to my mind.
Wow.
God was teaching me something there. I learned the reason for missions. While we have all the resources and time to learn about and know God and Jesus, people in the jungle of Ecuador don’t. Their time is dedicated to surviving and providing for their families. Missions provides that small gap where they can learn about God and Jesus. Hopefully, that gap, eleven if it’s for a few days, plants the seed for fruit to grow.
I have another opportunity to return to the jungle of Ecuador again. To preach the word of God to these people in the jungle would be a massive blessing and a wonderful opportunity. Last year, I went to Quito to encourage pray for, and worship the leaders in the jungles. It was such a blessing last year that this year will be even more of a blessing.
