Hello friends and brothers and sisters in Christ!
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I am writing to share with you what God has been doing in my life this past year. As I get closer and closer to having spent 40 years on this earth, it’s made me reevaluate my priorities in life. What am I working for? Is what I’m investing all my time and energy in worth it?
Over the last year God has grown my desire to see others personally know God and share the good news instead of keeping my faith private. As I’ve spent more time serving our youth ministry, I’ve been blessed to see God’s love for future generations. I recently took a class focused on the work of missions and it has changed my perspective on what I should be doing with my life.
Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
For years, I hesitated to take time off for mission trips because I work with my family at our restaurant in downtown Orlando and without me, the restaurant can’t function well. So when I asked my father, I thought he would say no, but he surprised me with his reply. He told me our family is always willing to endure some hardship so that I can go. I never expected that response, and I am deeply grateful for their support and sacrifice. So with this opportunity I will be going to Indonesia on a short term mission trip from August 9-20 with my fellow church members. Our time will be spent encouraging the full time missionaries our church is partnered with, visiting the elderly, doing children’s ministry, and observing the work that goes into Bible translation.
I am writing to you because whether you know it or not, you have played a role in my spiritual journey. The ways you have displayed the love of God in how you live your life has been an inspiration. I also want to be that kind of light in this dark world. I’ve been blessed so much in this life and I hope to be a source of blessing to others.
